Oracle RMAN Recovery Catalog Method

 How to Create a Recovery Catalog:

server 1: targetdb (192.168.31.201)
server 2: rcat (192.168.31.202)

step 1: create user and grant the recovery permission in rcat server

create user rc_user identified by rc123;
grant connect, resource, unlimited tablespace, to rc_user;
grant recovery_catalog_owner to rc_user;

(recommended – create new tablespace and assign rc_user user)

step 2: enable and start the listener in rcat server

step 3: enable and start the listener in targetdb

step 4: add rcat server TNS entry in targetdb

(tns name is like 'rcat')

step 5:connect RMAN in targetdb and create the catalog

rman catalog rc_user/rc123@rcat
RMAN>
create catalog;

step 6: exit and reconnect the RMAN use target and catalog

rman target / catalog rc_user/rc123@rcat

step 7: register the database

RMAN>register database;

step 8: verify the Registration

RMAN>report schema;

SQL>(connect rcat server and login rc_user user)
select name from rc_database;
select * from tab;

How to Unregister and drop the catalog

step 1: connect the RMAN use target and catalog

rman target / catalog rc_user/rc123@rcat

step 2: run unregister command

RMAN> unregister databse;

step 3: drop the catalog

RMAN> drop catalog

step 4: verify the UnRegistration

RMAN> report schema;

 
SQL>(connect rcat server and login rc_user user)
select name from rc_database;
select * from tab;
